Workshop with Teachers in Maribor, Slovenia

April 19 2016 – Maribor, Slovenia

The LIFEGENMON team took part in the forest pedagogic seminar “Can learning be an adventure?”, which was organized by the Institute of Forest Pedagogy within the framework of the Network of forest schools and kindergartens of Slovenia. It was attended by 45 participants from kindergartens and schools from Slovenia and included 6 participants from the neighboring Croatia.

The seminar was co-organized by Nursery Tezno Maribor, Anton Medved Kindergarten Kamnik and the Slovenian Forestry Institute. The main part of the seminar was held in Maribor city forest Stražun, where the teachers were presented with a number of practical approaches, ideas and teaching materials for working with children in forests.

The lecturers from the Slovenian Forestry Institute provided expert backgrounds, explained teaching approaches and distributed teaching materials on general forest topics (biodiversity, environmental change), forest animals and the connection between forest and water. Dr. Urša Vilhar and Boris Rantaša gave lectures on behalf of the LIFEGENMON project team.

The 4th LIFEGENMON portal establishing workshop, the first one that took place in the forest, invited the present teachers to share what they would find useful on the LIFEGENMON portal. The teachers gave great feedback from teachers and the project team now has a great basis for the design of the teacher’s section of the portal.

One of the teachers commented on the seminar: “One of the best seminars that I’ve attended! Practical, useful, graphic, experiential, experiential, inspiring – something that can immediately try with children (and their parents). Active, interesting and colorful!”
