Greek Alternate Minister of Environment & Energy meets with the General  Secretary of the Decentralised Administration of Macedonia Thrace

On Monday 13th June the Alternate Minister of Environment and Energy Mr.Yiannis Tsironis visited offices of the Decentralised Administration of Macedonia and Thrace ( D.A.M.T.) , in Thessaloniki. The  Minister was welcomed by the General Secretary of D.A.M.T. Mr. Nikita Fragkiskakis .

A general meeting took place between the two men and the directors of the Forest Service of the Decentralised Administration of Macedonia – Thrace.

Among other subjects Mr. Tsironis was informed by the General Secretary about the European Projects in which the Decentralised Administration of Macedonia and Thrace is participating (LIFEGENMON, SEEMLA & FORESTMIT)

Mr. Nikitas Fragiskakis presented thoroughly to the Minister the LIFEGENMON project, the projects objectives, the expected results, the timeline and the partners and the people that participate in the project.

He emphasised  the necessity of introducing genetic monitoring into conservation programs and sustainable management since it is a crucial component of any sustainable forest management as it gives a possibility to detect potentially harmful changes of forest adaptability before they are seen at higher levels. Forest Genetic Monitoring can serve as an early warning system to aid the assessment of a species response to environmental change on a long-term temporal scale.
