• Forest Science for Future Forests: Opening of the LIFEGENMON Final ConferenceThe hybrid LIFEGENMON conference opened on Monday, 21st of September 2020, with an opening address from prof. dr. Hojka Kraigher followed by addresses of representatives of institutions mag. Alenka Korenjak, Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food of the Republic of Slovenia, doc. dr. Primož Simončič, Director of the Slovenian Forestry Institute, mag. Janez Logar, acting director of the Slovenia Forest Service, prof. dr. Miha Humar, Vice Dean of the Biotechnical Faculty, University of Ljubljana, and it was opened by the most prominent guest, academic Ivan Kreft, representing The Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

     

    The conference continued with online presentations and live and online Q&A. The theme of the first day, Genetic diversity and climate change, was first discussed by keynote speakers dr. Santiago C. Gonzalez-Martinez, who presented the use of genomic data to improve adaptive-trait prediction at large geographical scales and dr. Silvio Schueler, who fortified a lively debate with discussing the utilization of the adaptive potential of trees for assisted gene flow and climate smart forestry.     On the 2nd day of the conference, we continue with discussions about Forest Genetic Monitoring and about Forest resilience, conservation and management of forest genetic resources.
