On Friday, April 24th of 2015 ASP started forest genetic monitoring (FGM) plot establishment for Abies alba (silver fir) in Bavaria (Germany), close to Anger.

The first step in our selected area was to select and mark mature trees for genetic analysis. Our plot in Anger, according to the FGM procedures, we divided in to two parts: intensive and extensive sections. In intensive section we selected and marked 100 trees and also we founded and marked four subplots with natural regenerated trees (saplings). In each of these four subplots we selected 50 saplings (200 in total) for genetic analysis. And in extensive section we selected and marked plus 150 mature trees.

The second step was to mark all mature trees permanently with dyes, because of the long-term study phase until 2020. Thereby we ensure the possibility to find the selected trees again for e.g. phenological observations.

After marking of the trees we are going to sample wood cores and needles for DNA analysis. Find out more in the photo gallery below:
