I’m currently visiting the #Forests2015 social media bootcamp, which is a pre-event workshop of the XIV World Forestry Congress, which begins on Monday. My journey took me from Jože Pučnik airport in Ljubljana through Frankfurt to Johannesburg, South Africa and finally to Durban. I was a bit anxious about the state of the affairs there but it all went out of the window when I arrived at the airport. People here are very friendly and so far I haven’t found something to be afraid of yet :).

One interesting thing was that I was greeted at the security check in by an advertisment about the importance of tree planting (I later realized that it is the commercial spot for the Congress). So from the beginning of it seems that South Africa is the right place to hold the XIV Forestry Congress. I am pretty amped up for the #Forests2015 Social Media Bootcamp, which starts tomorrow. Lots of participants are already active on social media and today we will be coming together after 3 months of intense (and amazingly well done and successful) preparatory activities. My mission here is to disseminate LIFEGENMON and forest genetic monitoring as widely as possible and find new opportunities for collaboration.
